Risk disclaimer
Volatility reference only — a break can be a trend or just noise.
What is an ATR channel?
The channel visualizes the normal volatility range: most ordinary moves stay inside ±N×ATR, and breaks often signal expanding moves.
Larger multiples make a wider, more meaningful band.
How to use
- Enter the current price and ATR.
- Enter the multiple (default 2).
- Click Calculate for upper, lower and mid levels.
Formula
- Upper = price + multiple × ATR
- Lower = price − multiple × ATR
Example
Price 100, ATR 2, multiple 2 → upper 104, lower 96.
As ATR expands with volatility, the channel adapts to the market.
FAQ
vs Bollinger Bands?
ATR channels size by true range around the current price; Bollinger uses standard deviation around a moving average — different construction.
