Risk disclaimer

This calculator provides estimates for informational purposes only. Actual results may vary due to exchange rules, fees, slippage and market conditions. High leverage carries liquidation risk.

What is a margin calculator?

Margin is the capital locked up to open and hold a position. The higher the leverage, the less margin is required for the same position — but adverse price moves also consume margin faster.

This tool estimates initial margin: Initial Margin = Position Value ÷ Leverage. Maintenance margin, fees and funding are not included.

How to use

  1. Enter the entry price and quantity.
  2. Set the planned leverage (default 10x).
  3. Click Calculate to see position value, required initial margin and the margin rate.

Formula

  • Position Value = Entry Price × Quantity
  • Initial Margin = Position Value ÷ Leverage
  • Margin Rate = 1 ÷ Leverage × 100%

Example

Long at 20,000 with quantity 0.1 and 10x leverage: position value = 2,000 and initial margin = 200 (10% margin rate).

The same position at 50x would only need 40 in margin, but price moves would affect margin 50x faster.

FAQ

Isolated or cross margin?

This is an isolated initial-margin estimate. Cross margin shares account balance across positions and actual usage may differ.

Why is maintenance margin needed?

Maintenance margin keeps a position open. If margin falls below it during adverse moves, liquidation can trigger — not simulated here.

Are fees included?

No. Opening and closing fees are separate; estimate them with a trading fee calculator.
