What is max drawdown?
Max drawdown is the drop from a historical high (peak) to a low (trough) — a key metric for risk and equity-curve quality.
Amount = Peak − Trough; the ratio uses the peak as the base.
How to use
- Enter the historical peak and trough values.
- Click Calculate to see the drawdown amount and percentage.
Formula
- Drawdown = Peak − Trough
- Drawdown % = Drawdown ÷ Peak × 100%
Example
Peak 10,000 and trough 6,000 → drawdown 4,000, −40%.
Peak and trough already sit on the timeline; no time input is needed.
FAQ
Why the minus sign?
Drawdown is shown as a negative percentage to reflect loss direction; magnitude is its absolute value.
How to interpret it?
Smaller drawdowns mean smoother equity. Pair drawdown with return/drawdown ratios when evaluating strategies.
