What is a stop-loss price calculator?

Convert your maximum loss into a loss per unit (loss ÷ quantity), then move down from entry for longs or up for shorts to get the stop.

Fees and slippage are not included; add them to the loss if you want them covered by the stop.

How to use

  1. Choose long or short.
  2. Enter the entry price, quantity and maximum acceptable loss.
  3. Click Calculate to get the stop-loss trigger price.

Formula

  • Loss Per Unit = Max Loss ÷ Quantity
  • Long Stop = Entry − Loss Per Unit
  • Short Stop = Entry + Loss Per Unit

Example

Long entry 20,000, qty 1, max loss 1,000 → stop = 19,000.

With qty 2 and the same loss, stop = 19,500 — larger size puts the stop closer.

FAQ

How large should the max loss be?

Often a fixed % of your account (e.g. 1%). Size the quantity first, then derive the stop.

Are fees included?

No. Being stopped out still costs both trading fees; add expected fees to the max loss if you wish.
