Risk disclaimer

Returns are your historical or assumed inputs; the page is weighted arithmetic only, no forecast.

What does a weighted return show?

Portfolio return is a capital-weighted sum, not an average: bigger weights amplify each asset's effect on the total.

An equal-weight average is shown alongside, so you can see what weighting changes.

How to use

  1. Per row, enter an asset's weight % and its return % over the same period.
  2. Empty rows count as 0; up to five assets; weights normalize to 100%.
  3. Click Calculate for the weighted return and each asset's contribution points.

Formula

  • Normalized weight = weight ÷ Σweights
  • Portfolio return = Σ(normalized weight × asset return)
  • Asset contribution = normalized weight × asset return

Example

A 60% returning 10% and B 40% returning 20% → portfolio return = 6 + 8 = 14%, equal-weight average 15%.

Contribution points sum to the portfolio return — a built-in cross-check.

FAQ

Relation to rebalance tools?

Rebalance handles amounts and target weights; this page asks how much the portfolio earns under given weights and returns.

Same return period needed?

Yes — all returns must cover the same window (e.g. all monthly) or the weighted result is meaningless.
