Risk disclaimer
Rates and day-count follow the venue; borrow rates can spike in stress.
How does borrow cost accrue?
Shorts borrow coins first and pay interest daily while holding — longer holding and higher rates cost more.
The annual rate comes from the venue and moves over time and by asset.
How to use
- Enter the short notional.
- Enter the venue's annual borrow rate (%).
- Enter the expected holding days.
- Click Calculate for daily/total/annual cost.
Formula
- Daily = notional × annual ÷ 365
- Total = daily × days
Example
Notional 10,000 at 8% for 30 days → daily ≈ 2.19, total ≈ 65.75.
Cost eats short profits — more so the longer you hold.
FAQ
Same for leveraged shorts?
Notional is the actual borrowed value; leverage affects margin, not the borrow rate.
