What is slippage?

Market orders usually fill at slightly worse prices than expected — that gap is slippage, a hidden cost of thin books or fast markets.

Slippage cost ≈ notional × slippage %; small per unit, it can be significant on large orders.

How to use

  1. Enter the quantity and the reference price.
  2. Enter the expected slippage % (e.g. 0.1 = 0.1%).
  3. Click Calculate to see notional and slippage cost.

Formula

  • Notional = Quantity × Price
  • Slippage Cost = Notional × Slippage %

Example

Qty 2 at 100 with 0.1% slippage → notional 200, cost 0.20.

At 1% (common in thin pairs) the same order costs 2.00, or 1% of notional.

FAQ

How to reduce slippage?

Use limit orders in tranches, trade liquid pairs and windows, and consider iceberg orders.

Can slippage be predicted?

No. This is a sensitivity estimate; real slippage depends on book depth and speed.
