Risk disclaimer
A generic approximation; real liquidation depends on fees, funding, slippage and venue risk tiers — defer to the exchange.
Why compare the two?
Higher leverage pulls the liquidation price closer to entry. If the liquidation distance is shorter than your stop distance, the exchange liquidates you before your stop can trigger.
The liquidation price uses a generic approximation (excluding fees and funding) and is labeled “estimated”.
How to use
- Choose the direction and enter the entry price.
- Enter leverage, stop distance (%) and maintenance margin rate (default 0.5%).
- Click Calculate for the stop price, estimated liquidation price and the gap between them.
- Compare the 5×/10×/20×/50×/100× liquidation distances to see whether your stop sits before liquidation.
Estimation formula (approximate)
- Stop price = entry × (1 ∓ stop distance %)
- Long est. liquidation ≈ entry × (1 − 1/leverage + MMR)
- Short est. liquidation ≈ entry × (1 + 1/leverage − MMR)
Example
Assume a long entry of 100 at 10x with a 5% stop and 0.5% MMR → stop 95, est. liquidation ≈ 90.5, a 9.5% liquidation distance.
Raise leverage to 20x and the liquidation distance drops to ≈ 4.5% — it would trigger before the 5% stop.
FAQ
How do I tell which triggers first?
Look at “liquidation distance”: if it is smaller than your stop distance, liquidation happens first; otherwise your stop does.
Why 1 unit?
The liquidation distance in % is independent of position size, so one unit gives the same percentage as any quantity.
