What is a trailing stop?
A trailing stop follows price in the favorable direction: longs track the high, shorts track the low, and a pullback beyond the set distance triggers the exit.
It replaces a fixed stop with a drawdown distance, letting winners run further.
How to use
- Choose long or short.
- Enter the extreme reference price reached (high for longs, low for shorts).
- Enter the trail distance % and click Calculate.
Formula
- Long trailing stop = Highest ref × (1 − distance %)
- Short trailing stop = Lowest ref × (1 + distance %)
Example
Long high 21,000 with 5% trail → stop 19,950. If price reaches 22,000 the stop rises to 20,900.
Short low 20,000 with 3% trail → stop 20,600.
FAQ
What reference price?
For longs use the highest price reached in the move; for shorts the lowest. Current price works as a conservative estimate.
Bigger distance means looser?
Yes — looser avoids noise stops but gives back more profit.
