Risk disclaimer

An arithmetic aggregate that ignores maintenance-margin and risk-tier differences per position.

What is portfolio effective leverage?

When positions use different leverages, no single position's leverage describes the whole account's exposure.

Effective leverage = total notional ÷ total margin — a margin-weighted average useful for assessing overall risk.

How to use

  1. Enter one position per row: margin and leverage.
  2. Empty rows are ignored; each used row needs both values.
  3. Click Calculate for total margin, total notional and effective leverage.

Formula

  • Position notional = margin × leverage
  • Total notional = Σ notional; total margin = Σ margin
  • Effective leverage = total notional ÷ total margin

Example

Position A margin 100 at 10x and B margin 200 at 5x → total margin 300, notional 2,000, effective leverage ≈ 6.67.

Even with a 10x position, the account's overall leverage sits lower.

FAQ

Does effective leverage predict liquidation?

Not directly. Liquidation also depends on per-position maintenance margin, cross available balance and volatility — use the liquidation and stop tools too.

How do I fill shorts?

Enter margin and leverage; notional is positive. Direction does not change the aggregate.
