Risk disclaimer

This calculator provides estimates for informational purposes only and is not financial advice. Averaging down increases exposure.

What is an average entry calculator?

After scaling in, your average = Σ(price × quantity) ÷ Σ quantity. It anchors where unrealized PnL starts.

This tool supports up to three lots of the same direction; net off long and short before using for mixed positions.

How to use

  1. Fill in the first price and quantity.
  2. Optionally add lots 2 and 3 (they can be left empty).
  3. Click Calculate to see the average entry and total quantity.

Formula

  • Total Quantity = Q1 + Q2 + Q3
  • Total Cost = P1×Q1 + P2×Q2 + P3×Q3
  • Average Entry = Total Cost ÷ Total Quantity

Example

Buy 1 @ 20,000 + 1 @ 19,000 → average 19,500, total qty 2.

Buy 0.5 @ 20,000 + 0.5 @ 18,000 → average 19,000, total qty 1.

FAQ

Is a lower average always good?

Averaging down speeds recovery but increases total risk. Combine with position sizing and a stop.

Should fees be included?

For strict accounting, add fees into cost. This is a pure-price estimate; adjust slightly if desired.
