What is ROI?

ROI = (Current Value − Cost) ÷ Cost × 100%. It measures return relative to the capital actually put in.

It fits spot positions, yield and portfolio-level checks; unlike ROE it does not use leverage margin.

How to use

  1. Enter total cost invested.
  2. Enter the current value (or proceeds from selling).
  3. Click Calculate to see profit and ROI.

Formula

  • Profit = Current Value − Cost
  • ROI = Profit ÷ Cost × 100%

Example

Cost 5,000, current value 6,000 → profit 1,000, ROI = 20%.

Current value 4,000 gives ROI = −20%.

FAQ

ROI vs ROE?

ROE divides by leverage margin while ROI divides by capital actually invested; the gap grows with leverage.

Does the period matter?

Yes — annualize ROI before comparing across different holding periods.
