Risk disclaimer

Pure math for illustration; not investment advice.

Why are loss and recovery asymmetric?

Recovery gain = loss ÷ (1 − loss); e.g. a 50% loss needs +100% to break even.

The deeper the loss, the faster the recovery hurdle climbs.

How to use

  1. Enter your loss percentage (e.g. 50).
  2. Click Calculate for the recovery gain.

Formula

  • Recovery gain = loss% ÷ (1 − loss%)

Example

−10% needs +11.11%; −50% needs +100%; −90% needs +900%.

This is part of the math behind capping per-trade losses before chasing returns.

FAQ

Do fees add to it?

This is pure price math; with fees the required gain is slightly higher.
